Planning speech: Gove is rattled to his core at thought of losing to Lib Dems

Responding to Michael Gove’s speech on changes to housing plans, Liberal Democrat Housing, Communities and Local government spokesperson, Helen Morgan MP said:

"Michael Gove is clearly rattled to his core at the thought of losing his seat to the Liberal Democrats. He is running scared after his own Council flipped to us. The Blue Wall is crumbling and Gove knows he is at risk.

"For communities across the country, this is too little too late after years of Conservative Ministers allowing their green land to be paved over by greedy developers.

"Nothing will change while the Conservative Party is bankrolled by developer cash.

"The blunt truth is nobody will believe this desperate attempt by Conservative Ministers to re-write history. We've been here before and the public knows it.

"Communities across the country are crying out for affordable housing with proper infrastructure, but today's announcement will do nothing to build the right homes with the roads, health services and schools that should come with them. 

"That's why Liberal Democrats are calling for more local powers to deliver the communities we need, including a robust target for the government to build 150,000 social homes in the UK each year, without which millions of families will not have a safe and warm home to return to at the end of each day.”
