Pharmaceutical tariffs: Streeting must convene task force to protect NHS funding and patients from drug shortages

Responding to reporting that the Government is working to prevent tariffs being placed on the UK pharmaceutical industry, Liberal Democrat Health and Social Care spokesperson Helen Morgan MP said:

“The Health Secretary needs to immediately convene a task force that will work to protect NHS funding and millions of patients from drug shortages resulting from Trump’s playground bully tactics.

“People need to know that the medicines they rely on just to get through their daily lives will be there when they need them, no matter what Trump threatens next, with the Government making plans for stockpiling as a matter of urgency.

“It is vital ministers take steps to reassure the public and prepare for every scenario that the chaotic Trump administration could force upon us.

“Trump’s trade war has already caused untold damage and we need to do everything in our power to end it. That means speaking the only language that the President understands, strength, by showing Trump we have alternatives through building an economic coalition of the willing.”
