NHS stats: govt needs to take urgent steps to prevent “needless misery”

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to the latest NHS data showing that there is ‘no sign of festive flu letting up’ with 2,504 beds being taken up by flue patients, up almost half on last week, Liberal Democrat Health and Social Care spokesperson, Helen Morgan MP said:

“This winter crisis looks set to be one of the most difficult on record and ultimately it is patients who will suffer.

“The previous Conservative government’s neglect of our NHS ran it into the ground and it is up to the new government to take urgent steps to prevent needless misery.

“Ministers do not have any time to waste. They need to bring forward immediate plans to winterproof the NHS, as the Liberal Democrats have been calling for for months, and make sure this is the last winter crisis we put patients through.”
