New US tariffs: Ministers "asleep as the wheel" whilst Trump punishes British businesses

Responding to the news that British manufacturers have been left reeling after the White House imposed a huge expansion of goods which will face US import tariffs, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader and Treasury Spokesperson Daisy Cooper said:

“⁠This is yet more proof of Trump acting like a playground bully with America's longest standing allies.

“Ministers are asleep at the wheel whilst small businesses are being punished by Trump’s damaging trade war.

“The UK Government needs to form an economic coalition of the willing with our European and Commonwealth allies, to urgently counter Trump’s tactics.”
