NAO report: No surprise trust in water industry at an all time low

25 Apr 2025

EMBARGO: 00.01 25th April 2025

Responding to the NAO report that found consumer trust in the water industry at an all-time low, Liberal Democrat Environment Spokesperson Tim Farron MP said:

“It is no surprise that public trust in water regulation is at an all time low. Customers have seen their water bills rocket, whilst executives pocket eye watering bonuses and gallons of disgusting sewage is pumped into British rivers and seas.

“The regulators whose very job it is to protect customers and hold the water industry have failed and the Government still hasn't woken up to the task at hand.

“The Liberal Democrats have long led the campaign to end the sewage scandal and enact radical reform to clean up the industry. This report should act as yet another call to action for the Government to replace Ofwat with a new regulator to hold water companies accountable and ensure customers are not on the hook for failures of regulation and governance.”
