EMBARGO: Immediate release

  • Chesham and Amersham by-election winner joins Cllr Emma Holland-Lindsay in Silsoe for the ribbon cutting ceremony

  • Mid-Bedfordshire by-election declared a “two horse race” as bookies tip the Liberal Democrats to win

The Liberal Democrats have opened their second office in Mid-Bedfordshire as their campaign ramps up ahead of polling day next month.

The winner of the Chesham and Amersham by-election Sarah Green MP joined the party’s Mid-Beds candidate, Cllr Emma Holland-Lindsay and local activists at the opening ceremony on Saturday 9th September.

The office, based in Silsoe, joins their Flitwick office as a campaigning hub for by-election activities.

The Liberal Democrats have been on a winning streak across Bedfordshire, including ousting the Conservatives from control on Central Bedfordshire Council with gains in May’s local elections.

Since 2021, the party has won four parliamentary by-elections against the Conservative party in rural areas, including the rural Somerset constituency of Somerton and Frome in July.  Recent victories also include in neighbouring Buckinghamshire, by gaining the seat of Cesham and Amersham from the Conservative party.

Celebrating the new office, Liberal Democrat candidate Cllr Emma Holland-Lindsay said:

“It is incredibly exciting to see our campaign for change go from strength to strength.

“As a local Bedfordshire Councillor, I have seen the Conservative government take this area for granted. People tell me it is almost impossible to see a GP or NHS dentist, and that local hospitals need urgent repairs.

“It is time for change in Mid-Bedfordshire and I am determined to deliver that.”

Liberal Democrat MP for Chesham and Amersham Sarah Green MP said:

“I heard loud and clear from local people who are fed up after years of an absent Conservative MP taking them for granted. Emma would make a fantastic and hardworking MP, and is already seen as a local champion through her Councillor role.

“This by-election is going to be a two horse race between an out of touch Conservative party, and the hardworking local LiberalDemocrats. Only the Liberal Democrats can beat the Conservative party here.

“Rural villages are increasingly turning to the Liberal Democrats to deliver change, including Labour voters who are lending us their vote to send a message.”
