Lib Dems warn Government risks plunging country into a “new era of stagflation”

Responding to inflation remaining at 3.8%, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

“The Government’s failure to turn the economy around risks putting the country into a new era of stagflation.

“By refusing to boost growth through a bespoke UK-EU customs union or embracing the industries of the future to cut energy bills in half, household budgets are being left at the mercy of painfully high bills.

“The Chancellor cannot continue down this road to economic misery. Ministers need to admit their mistakes, scrap the jobs tax, take on Liberal Democrat proposals to cut energy bills in half and start negotiations for a bespoke UK-EU customs union.

“Until then household bills will continue to spike and we won’t get the growth needed to rebuild our public services.”
