Lib Dems seek to compel Government to publish legal advice on decision not to exempt PC Harper killers

Responding to the Government ruling out exempting PC Andrew Harper's killers from the early release scheme, Liberal Democrat Shadow Attorney General Ben Maguire MP said:

“It is an absolute insult to the family and loved ones of PC Andrew Harper that the Government has provided absolutely no explanation for why exempting of his killers from the early release scheme is ‘not possible. The public are rightly angry about this shocking decision’.

“His murderers should never be allowed to qualify for the scheme, and the Government must now come forward with the details of why they have made this bizarre decision.

“The Liberal Democrats are exploring all parliamentary tools at our disposal, including a Humble Address, to compel the Government to publish the legal advice on exactly why they have ruled out exempting cop killers from the early release scheme. It is simply wrong, and we will do everything we can to ensure the Government stops these dangerous men from walking free early.”
