Lib Dems: Marie Caulfield defection proves Farage “not serious” about NHS

16 Sep 2025

EMBARGO: Immediate

Responding to the news that ex-Conservative MP Marie Caulfield has defected to Reform, the Liberal Democrats have said this proves Farage is “not serious” about fixing our NHS.

At the General Election last year, Liberal Democrat MP James MacLeary won the seat off Caulfield with over 12,000 votes.

James MacCleary Liberal Democrat MP for Lewes said:

“Letting a failed former Conservative health minister into Reform shows Nigel Farage doesn't care about our NHS.

“The Conservatives left our NHS on its knees, now it looks like Farage wants to finish the job and destroy it for good.

“Rather than offering solutions to the problems our country faces, Reform seems to be welcoming in the people that were responsible for causing them in the first place.”
