Lib Dems launch campaign to unseat Conservative chairman Greg Hands
EMBARGO: For Immediate Release
The Liberal Democrats are launching their campaign today to unseat Conservative Party chairman Greg Hands in Chelsea and Fulham.
Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper will launch the campaign today (Thursday 25 May 2023) at a rally of activists in the constituency, along with the party’s Chelsea and Fulham candidate and successful entrepreneur Adam Knight.
The Liberal Democrats are the clear challengers in the seat having come second at the 2019 General Election after a significant swing towards them. The party gained an extra 14% of the vote.
Greg Hands oversaw the recent disastrous local election results for the Conservatives, with his dire prediction of 1,000 seat losses ending up coming true.
The Liberal Democrat campaign will focus on the Conservative government's poor economic record including soaring mortgage costs and unfair tax rises that are hammering families in Chelsea and Fulham and across the country.
Adam Knight’s business background is popular with disaffected former Conservative voters, especially his experience creating jobs and economic opportunities. .
His campaign will also focus on local crime and the need to bring back local police stations, along with Greg Hands' record of repeatedly voting to allow water companies to dump their filthy sewage in our rivers including in the River Thames.
Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper said:
“Greg Hands joins the long list of senior Conservative ministers looking over their shoulder at the threat posed by the LiberalDemocrats at the next election.
“He oversaw crushing Conservative defeats right across the country just a few months ago at the hands of the Liberal Democrats. If his record is anything to go by, the next General Election could see the same result here in his own backyard.
“Adam Knight will be an excellent champion for Chelsea and Fulham, his business background and liberal values are exactly what the area needs.”
Liberal Democrat Candidate for Chelsea and Fulham Adam Knight said:
“Our area has been let down and taken for granted by the Conservatives for too long. People in Chelsea and Fulham are telling me they feel the country is heading in the wrong direction and that it’s time for a change.
”They are sick of endless unfair tax rises, sewage dumping and our local police stations being closed while criminals are let off the hook.
“My professional background as a successful entrepreneur means I have the experience and skills to get things done. I understand how to create growth, jobs and opportunity.
