Lib Dems call for emergency COBRA meeting following RAF Fairford security breach

The Liberal Democrats have today called on the Government to convene a COBRA meeting, following the suspected bomb plot at RAF Fairford over the weekend. Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesperson, James MacCleary MP, said:

“Following such an alarming security breach close to one of our major RAF bases, it beggars belief that the Prime Minister has yet to call a meeting of COBRA. A suspected bomb plot targeting a key military facility is a direct threat to national security and demands an immediate, coordinated response.

“The Government must convene COBRA without delay. Ministers must also urgently accelerate the security review across all defence bases, announced after the RAF Brize Norton breach, to ensure our facilities, service personnel, their families, and local communities are properly protected.

“We cannot wait for a tragic outcome before addressing our vulnerabilities, and the public needs reassurance that our critical national infrastructure is secure. The Prime Minister must lead from the front, take personal control of the national response, and give our security services the full backing they need.”
