Labour market stats: self sabotage from the Govt

Responding to the latest labour market figures which show unemployment has risen, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

“This is self sabotage from the Government. It is pushing people out of work, putting even more pressure on already stretched public services and leaving businesses scrambling just to keep the lights on.

“It shows the absurdity of ministers saying they want to bring down welfare spending by getting more people into work, when all they do is drive thousands out of work with their unfair jobs tax.

“The Chancellor cannot allow this situation to persist. The Government needs to scrap this failed tax or we won’t get the growth needed to rebuild our public services and protect family finances.”
