IFS report shows last Conservative Govt trashed the economy and sent mortgages spiralling

Responding to the latest IFS report that shows 320,000 people have been pushed into poverty because of mortgage interest rate rises, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said: 

"It's utterly devastating to see so many households dragged into poverty because the last Conservative Government trashed the economy and sent mortgages spiralling. 

“The Conservatives have left our economy in tatters, sent mortgages through the roof and overseen the worst cost of living crisis in a generation - now people are suffering.

"Our new group of Liberal Democrat MPs will be campaigning day in and day out to get people a fair deal they deserve after being taken for granted for so long."
