GP recruitment crisis: "far too many still struggling" for appointments

8 Apr 2025

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to the Government's announcement that they've recruited 1,500 new GPs, Helen Morgan MP, Liberal Democrat Health and Care Spokesperson, said:

"The reality is far too many people across the country are still struggling to get a GP appointment when they desperately need one.

"The Government's national insurance tax will only make the recruitment crisis worse as it becomes more expensive for GP practices to hire the extra doctors we desperately need.

“Extra doctors are of course welcome but we will never fix the crisis in our NHS without fixing social care. Wes Streeting needs to make sure the government's review on social care is finished by the end of the year.”
