Govt borrowing figures 'should be ringing alarm bells inside the Treasury"

Responding to the latest figures showing that Government borrowing was £151.9 billion in the year to March, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson, Daisy Cooper MP said:

“This is a damning set of figures that should be ringing alarm bells inside the Treasury.

“After years of Conservative economic vandalism the Labour government has completely failed to bring debt under control with a series of blundering missteps.

“It is time for the Chancellor to accept that her policies have failed and to urgently change course. That means scrapping her disastrous jobs tax and her short sighted red lines blocking a UK-EU customs union which would generate the growth needed to rebuild our public services and protect family finances.”
