GDP: economy still stuck in the slow lane

31 Mar 2026

EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Responding to today’s GDP figures, which show an estimated increase of 0.1% in the last quarter of 2025, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP said:

"Today's figures confirm that after Labour's two anti-growth budgets the economy is still stuck in the slow lane. Yet again the Government has failed to deliver the strong growth they promised, whilst households are being hammered by Trumpflation.

"Kickstarting growth is the only way we can end the cost of living crisis, and protect our economy from the global chaos caused by Trump that was cheered on by Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch.

"The Government needs to get Britain growing again by negotiating a new UK-EU customs union to rip up red tape holding British businesses back and taking urgent measures to tackle the huge impact that the Iran war is having on the pockets of British households."
