Davey: Recession warning a "badge of shame" for Rishi Sunak and Conservative government

Responding to the Bank of England's warning today that the UK is facing the longest recession on record, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:

"This is a badge of shame for Rishi Sunak and this Conservative government.

"Months of chaos and incompetence have played havoc with our economy and people are suffering as a result. 

"Ordinary families and pensioners should not have to pay the price for the Conservative Party’s mistakes. It’s time for a proper windfall tax on oil and gas companies, and for benefits and pensions to be uprated in line with inflation."
