Davey: NHS heading for cuts crisis as Conservatives fight among themselves
EMBARGO: Immediate Release
The NHS is heading for severe real terms cuts as the Conservative Party descends into infighting, LiberalDemocrat Leader Ed Davey has warned.
It comes ahead of the latest figures on NHS waiting lists being published today, which have grown significantly since Rishi Sunak pledged to bring them down.
The Health Foundation warned this week that the NHS budget is set to fall by £3.5 billion in real terms in 2023-24. The Liberal Democrats said Rishi Sunak’s pledge is being left in tatters as the government slashes spending on the NHS.
Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey said:
“The NHS is being cut to shreds by the Conservative Party as they battle each other on their failed immigration policy.
“People are being left waiting in pain for months for the treatment they need, while Conservative MPs fight among themselves like rats in a sack.
“Rishi Sunak’s pledge to cut waiting lists has been left in tatters, and to make matters worse he is now slashing spending on the NHS next year.
“It just shows this government is totally out of touch and deserves to be kicked out of office.”
