Bathing water status: Shocking rise in poor ratings

Responding to the latest government bathing water stats which finds the number of "poor" sites has risen in the past year, Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson Tim Farron MP said:

"It is insulting to see Ministers pat themselves on the back after a shocking rise in swimming spots rated as poor water quality. Sewage is gushing into lakes and seaside spots yet Conservative Ministers think the problem is solved. What a farce. 

"This national scandal needs to end now. 

"These stats should be a cause for concern, not celebration. Yet this Conservative government hasn't got a clue. When will this government finally get tough on these polluting firms?"
