Rising food prices: Govt asleep at the wheel as people struggle

Responding to research by Which? revealing that increased food prices have worsened the mental health of one in four people, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said:

"This reveals the devastating toll that soaring food prices are having on people across the country.

"The Conservative government has been asleep at the wheel and failed to take the action needed to keep food prices under control. It fell to the Liberal Democrats to successfully call for an investigation by the competition watchdog into potential profiteering by the supermarkets.

"Ministers need to now listen to our calls to boost energy bill support for farmers and slash red tape at our borders, to bring the cost of food down and save people money on their weekly shop."
