New Post Office law is "long overdue" say Lib Dems
EMBARGO: Immediate Release
Responding to the Post Office Minister Kevin Hollinrake's statement in the House of Commons on new legislation to quash Post Office scandal convictions, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesperson Alistair Carmichael MP said:
“Overturning the sub-postmasters' wrongful convictions is long overdue. The victims shouldn’t have had to wait more than four years since the High Court ruled on this appalling miscarriage of justice.
“The focus now must be getting full and fair compensation to all victims without any more delay.
"Sadly, it’s clear that sub-postmasters' cannot have faith in either the Post Office or the Business Department to make that happen, so we need an independent body to take over.”
