Interest rates: Hammer blow for homeowners who were sold a false dawn of lower rates

Responding to the Bank of England's decision to hold interest rates, Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said: 

"This is a hammer blow for homeowners who were sold a false dawn of lower rates by the government. 

"Millions of families are now left to cope with higher mortgages, with with no end in sight to the cost of living crisis. 

"The blame lies squarely with this incompetent Conservative government, who crashed the economy and unleashed mortgage turmoil. Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss owe families an apology for this mess."
