EMBARGO: Immediate Release

Heating Oil Crisis: Chancellor must set out a "proper plan", not just announce “she's found some money down the back of the sofa”

Responding to the Chancellors announcement of a package of support to help those struggling with higher heating oil costs, Sarah Dyke MP, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Rural Affairs, said:

"The Chancellor needs to set out a proper plan not just announce she's found some money down the back of the sofa. The needs of rural communities have been simply ignored while the crisis in Iran has escalated.

“It’s another harsh reminder that relying on volatile fossils fuel markets leaves families off the gas grid vulnerable as they watch their household bills soar while the government drags its feet.”

“Liberal Democrats have been calling for the government to introduce a price cap on heating oil, to properly shield rural communities from unaffordable price hikes.”
