Ed Davey to campaign in Surrey including Hunt and Gove's seats as he vows to “tear down the Blue Wall”

Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey will today (Wednesday 3rd January) kick off the New Year with a campaigning drive across marginal seats in Surrey, including in Jeremy Hunt and Michael Gove’s constituencies.

He will also hold a campaign rally with activists in Guildford as he vows to “tear down the Blue Wall and get rid of this appalling Conservative government.”

The Liberal Democrats have seen sweeping gains against the Conservatives in Surrey and across the Home Counties in recent years. At the local elections last May, the Liberal Democrats took control of Michael Gove’s local Surrey Heath Council and overtook the Conservatives to become the biggest party on Waverley Borough Council in Jeremy Hunt’s constituency.

The party is now looking to build on these gains at the General Election, targeting marginal seats across the Home Counties where lifelong Conservatives are switching to the Liberal Democrats.

“The Liberal Democrats have seen spectacular gains against the Conservative Party across the Home Counties in recent years. But we know the real hard work begins now, as we build on our recent successes and aim to get rid of as many Conservative MPs as possible at the next election.

“Families across the Home Counties are fed up with seeing their rivers ruined by sewage, their local hospitals crumble while mortgages and rents go through the roof.

“This is the year we can tear down the Blue Wall and get rid of this appalling Conservative government for good. Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to elect a strong local champion who will stand up for local health services and fight for a fair deal for their community.”
