COP28: The Conservative party has trashed the UK's standing on the world stage
EMBARGO: Immediate Release
Responding to the finalising of the COP28 agreement, Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey MP said:
“The sight of the the Climate Minister being rushed back to London from COP28, whilst other countries negotiated the final text is a sad reminder of how the Conservatives have so badly trashed the UK’s standing as a world leader on climate change.
"Rishi Sunak has damaged Britain’s role in the global fight against climate change and hurt our chances of being a leading economy of the future.
“I fear that without global leadership and ambitious plans at home Britain’s fight against climate change will be lost, and it will be the Conservatives who bear responsibility.
“While this COP has produced some positive results, it’s also shown again how fragile the process can be and how much further we have to go - both to stop the shocking costs and damage of climate change and to benefit from the positive change the green transtion can bring to our communities and economies.”
