Jamie Stone

MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross

Jamie Stone

As a Tain local, Jamie has always been committed to speaking up for the place where he grew up. He joined the Liberal Democrats after meeting Charles Kennedy in the 1980s and being inspired by Charles’ vision for the Highlands.

Before entering politics, Jamie worked in a wide range of industries and settings. From running his family’s cheese business and teaching English in Sicily to gutting fish in the Faroes and building oil rigs – his experience is diverse to say the least!

Jamie’s political journey has seen him serve at every level of democracy in Scotland, giving him a unique insight into the challenges our political system faces. As a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) and a local councillor in the Highlands, Jamie played a key role in establishing the Scottish Parliament and also worked to secure more money for home improvement grants. Since becoming an MP, Jamie has built on his strong track record and helped attract jobs and investment into the Highlands.

Outside of politics, Jamie enjoys spending time with his family, getting stuck into his garden and playing Panto Dame at the local pantomime (yes, really).
