Jane's Background
Jane's Story
Jane was first elected as a councillor in 1994, representing Village ward in Timperley. After completing a 4-year term, Jane took a 5-year break from politics to bring up her children. She won election again in 2003, and has now been a councillor for 25 years representing the Timperley area (currently Timperley North ward).
Jane went to primary school in the Brooklands area and secondary school in Manchester, She studied Biochemistry at the University of Leeds, and then went on to train in Nutrition and Dietetics as a postgraduate. Jane has had a long career in the NHS and currently works at Wythenshawe Hospital as a Diabetes Dietitian.
From 2019-2020 Jane took a leave of absence from the NHS whilst she was an elected MEP for the North West of England.
Jane was selected as Trafford Mayor for the 2025/26 municipal year, and is our first Lib Dem Mayor in 25 years since Ray Bowker in 2000.

Member of the European Parliament
Jane was elected as an MEP for the North West of England in May 2019 and served until Brexit took effect on 31st January 2020.
While an MEP, she sat as a member of:
- The Employment & Social Affairs Committee
- The Delegation to Brazil
- The Environment Committee (Substitute)
- The Public Health & Food Safety Committee
- Delegation to Afghanistan.
As a Liberal Democrat MEP Jane was a member of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament.

On Trafford Council
Jane is an elected councillor for Timperley North ward in Trafford, with over 25 years of experience in local government.
She has served on the Trafford Health Scrutiny Committee, the Health and Wellbeing Board and more recently the Accounts and Audit Committee. Over the years she has also served as a School Governor for Altrincham College, the Willows Primary School, Heyes Lane Primary School and Cloverlea Primary School.
She has been a champion for causes within in her community, being one of the founding members of the Friends of Pickering Lodge Park and Friends of Moss Park Gardens. She was one of the first in Trafford to initiate local litter picking activities in Timperley and continues to support these community groups.

Green Liberal Democrats 💚
Jane has been a pioneer on environmental issues. Shortly after joining the then Liberal Party, she joined the Liberal Ecology Group, which is today known as Green Liberal Democrats.
Jane led the way in campaigning on issues such as car exhaust pollution, battery recycling and clean energy from the early 1990s, long before these ideas were mainstream.
She was one of the first UK Woodland Trust Councillor Trees Champions and is passionate about promoting trees, green spaces and biodiversity within urban areas.
Jane is a longstanding member of the Executive of Green Liberal Democrats.
