Councillor drives campaign to clean up Salford Quays - Salford Now

22 Mar 2024

Salford Quays Councillor, Paul Heilbron, is claiming success in his ‘Save Our Walkways’ campaign to restore Clippers Quay.

The Liberal Democrat councillor says the council has agreed to complete a range of improvements which include:

  • Overhanging shrubbery to be cut back
  • Graffiti removal from the walls
  • Street furniture to be removed
  • Misshapen/broken/dead trees with extra growth from base below crown to be tended to
  • Loose blocks presenting trip hazards to be fixed
  • Lifted paving presenting trip hazards to be fixed
  • General maintenance throughout
  • Painting and replacement/repair of lamp columns and benches

Cllr Heilbron set up the Save Our Walkways campaign in September 2023, initially to restore the damaged walkway from Exchange Quay to Manchester city centre.

Deep cleaning of the stretch of waterside pathway from Winnipeg Quay to Anchorage has also been completed, following his discussions with Salford City Council.

Cllr Heilbron said: “It’s years of people not taking the area seriously and not actively trying to get remedies to areas that have been left in neglect.”
