Council keep on raiding reserves

Despite assurances Spelthorne Council is continuing to rely on its reserves to prop up its weak financial position. In 2006 we were assured that there would be a balanced budget but in this year's annual information provided to residents, a total £1.047m will be taken from reserves.

Housing developer attacks Council Green Belt policy

Fairview New Homes Ltd has submitted a planning application for 299 flats and houses in the Green Belt in Stanwell. This is effectively a direct challenge to the Council's long standing policy on no development in the Green Belt and in particular to the new Local Development Framework (LDF).

Heathrow campaign

Tory Council Leader does a U-Turn and now supports Heathrow Expansion

Spelthorne's Tory Leader, Cllr John Packman, has done a complete U-Turn on his position on Heathrow. In 2004 he was strongly AGAINST Heathrow expansion and now he is in favour (subject to a few weak environmental conditions). LibDem Councillor Ian Beardsmore exposed this at the Council meeting on 22nd February and described it as "a shocking about-face".
