Job Details
Charlotte Cane MP is looking for a motivated and highly organised individual with excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills to join her dedicated team as a full-time Parliamentary Assistant (maternity cover).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Analysing and evaluating data to ensure the MP is accurately informed on key issues
- Diary Management
- Writing external communications including speeches for the MP
- Attending and participating in meetings as appropriate
- Producing briefing packs for the MP, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
- Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
- Engaging confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face
- Maintaining working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency
- Maintaining positive on-going relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups, suppliers, local representatives and Westminster where required
- Monitoring local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
- Providing generalist admin support
- Responding to routine correspondence and enquiries
- Undertaking research on relevant subjects as directed
Person Specification
- The ability to research, analyse and present information clearly.
- The ability to manage a busy workload and work at pace.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of parliamentary procedure, debates, questions and legislation.
- Strong knowledge of current UK political landscape. Experience of working in a political environment such as in parliament, a government department, a charity, think tank or public affairs organisation is desirable.
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a close-knit team.
Sympathy with Liberal Democrat values will be an advantage in this role.
This is an office-based role. There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally. The role is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
This is a maternity cover position. The role is expected to continue until 1 May 2026 or the return of post-holder, whichever is earlier.
