I came to Brighton for my very first Liberal Democrat conference back in 2012. I didn't really know what to expect. What I found was the biggest liberal affirmation I could have got: a hive of people who believed that every individual and every community matters. I found a fellowship of activists who fiercely believe that where you're born must not limit your opportunity, that power unchecked becomes power abused, and that the measure of a good society is how it treats those with the least. I knew I'd found my political home. Fourteen years on, that instinct remains core to our party. In an age of rising populism and nationalism, it's what our country needs now more than ever. Against that backdrop, you delivered us some huge victories in May, through envelopes stuffed, pavements pounded, doors knocked, and social media posts uploaded. This Conference, we set out our new direction with a new party strategy! Strengthening our national message and boosting our social media campaigning are top priorities in the motion before Conference. Attendees will be subject to compulsory bag searches and metal detector wanding at the entrance. To ensure you can access the venue as quickly as possible please only bring essential items with you into the conference venue. Please allow time for queuing during key times - particularly after lunch and ahead of popular events. No sharp objects will be allowed in the BC (including knitting needles and crochet needles).
