Tackling Rubbish and Fly-Tipping

Alex and Kath Litterpicking

After hearing from many residents fed up with rubbish blighting their area, we decided to take action ourselves by launching the Lib Dem Lunchtime Litterpick.

Over several lunchtimes in 2025, we spent an hour clearing litter from local parks and streets. We spoke with community groups such as Friends of Cheney Row Park, who have worked hard to tackle fly-tipping, and heard from residents struggling with missed collections, overflowing public bins, and difficulties getting an additional outside bin.

We believe simple steps could make a real difference:

  1. Increase public bins in clear hotspots, such as outside the library
  2. Ensure missed collections are fixed within 24 hours
  3. Provide an additional black bin to any household that requires one
  4. Use stencils on cleared sites to highlight the cost of fly-tipping
