Fortnightly Bin Collections: Families Left Struggling

23 Jun 2025
Rubbish dumped in communal recycling bins

Many residents — including large families, parents with children in nappies, and people with medical needs — are telling us they’re finding it impossible to fit two weeks’ worth of non-recyclable rubbish into a single black bin.

To make matters worse, the council has made applying for a larger bin difficult, requiring an online-only application and proof of household size.

We’re also hearing of missed food waste collections and an increase in black bags dumped in estate recycling bins. We support the goal of more recycling, but Labour's approach is clearly backfiring.

We call on Waltham Forest Council to make larger black bins available to anyone who needs one — no hoops, no hassle. Higham Hill deserves clean streets & estates, not overflowing bins.
