Survey reveals majority support for fixed link to replace Corran ferry

Responding to a survey of over 1,000 people from communities served by the Corran ferry, which found that 54% were happy to replace the ferry with a bridge or a tunnel, Liberal Democrat candidate for Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire, Angus MacDonald said:  

“It’s now overwhelmingly clear that the majority of people know that the solution to an unreliable service lies in a fixed link.  We need funding for a ferry first though. Transport Scotland could easily fund this short 800 metre fixed link from its £3.3 billion budget.  

“A short tunnel or a bridge would be far more resilient in bad weather, less prone to technical breakdowns and would be open 24 hours a day.  

“If the Scottish Government can fund the Queensferry Crossing in Edinburgh, there is absolutely no reason they can’t shoulder the costs of a fixed link for Highland communities.  

“Ministers can’t dodge this any longer. They must move at pace to commission a fixed link that works for everyone in the community. As a councillor and prospective MP, I will keep the pressure on ministers to deliver this.”
