Russell Findlay should apologise for Truss chaos at manifesto launch
Speaking ahead of the launch of the Scottish Conservative manifesto, Scottish Liberal Democrat campaign chair Wendy Chamberlain has called on party leader Russell Findlay to apologise for supporting Liz Truss’ economic plans.
In her short time in Number 10, the former Tory leader presided over the disaster which caused lasting economic damage including a huge sell-off of government bonds, undermining Sterling, and shattering market confidence.
While Truss and her Chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng, both lost their seats at the 2024 General Election, many of her Tory supporters, including Russell Findlay, are still involved in frontline politics for now.
Findlay endorsed Liz Truss in August 2022 and backed her economic policy as late as September 2025.
Wendy Chamberlain said:
“Russell Findlay has been an unrepentant supporter of the disastrous Liz Truss mini budget which rocked market confidence and sent mortgage rates skyrocketing.
“Supporting such a flawed and dangerous plan casts serious doubt over his judgement. As a result, no one will take his manifesto seriously.
“He should look the Scottish people straight in the eye and apologise for promoting economic madness.
“Most of those who backed the Scottish Conservatives under Ruth Davidson are abandoning the party. If you are a former Conservative voter who believes Scotland deserves better, you should back Scottish Liberal Democrats on the peach regional ballot at this election.”
