Responding to John Swinney declining to take part in BBC Radio Scotland’s Mornings programme and take questions from members of the public, despite other Scottish party leaders participating in the programme earlier this week, as well as his refusal to take part in this evening's Newsnight debate, Scottish Liberal Democrat Willie Rennie MSP said:

“Less than a week to go and it’s clear John Swinney is running scared of this election.

“It’s little wonder that he refuses to speak to the public. After almost two decades of failing our NHS, axing public services and letting education slide down the international rankings, no one is buying the SNP's excuses anymore.

“People desperately want change, and that’s exactly why Liberal Democrats are growing. With a Liberal Democrat, you have someone who will get the basics right and stand up for you and your community."
