Rennie responds to MUP statement
Responding to today's ministerial statement confirming that the minimum unit price will rise to 65p, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Willie Rennie MSP said:
“Scottish Liberal Democrats were the first party to call for an increase in minimum unit pricing, so I am glad that ministers are doing the right thing. If the unit price is eroded by inflation then the benefits of the policy shrink over time.
“More than 20 people a week in Scotland die due to alcohol misuse, so the opponents of this of this policy need to explain what alternatives they have to tackle the pressures that this imposes on our health and justice systems.”
