Rennie presses minister about what he really thinks about broadband rollout
Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Willie Rennie has today pressed minister Richard Lochhead to admit that a key programme to deliver Superfast broadband will not be delivered until at least seven years late.
Mr Rennie's portfolio question asked the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on its commitment to deliver superfast broadband to 100% of premises by 2021.
After the minister dodged the question, Mr Rennie said:
"It was exactly the same insulting answer that I received the last time.
"R100 has not been delivered and the minister fine well knows that.
"My home still doesn’t have superfast broadband despite numerous attempts to get so.
"I know thousands of households haven't either and many won’t have it until 2028 – That's seven years late.
"The First Minister said that he wants to reach across the chamber and bring transparency to government. So rather than reading out the official answer, will the minister tell me exactly what he really thinks?"
