More than 700 probable suicides last year

Responding to the news that there were 704 probable suicide deaths in Scotland in 2024, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“These figures are horrific. They show why it is so important that we strengthen prevention and get everyone the care they need when they need it.
“Waits for mental health treatment are through the roof, with too many people still waiting more than a year for help.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats would roll out more counsellors in GPs, A&E departments and alongside police and prison staff, ramp up mental health first aid training in every workplace and deliver robust, 24/7 crisis care.
“Scotland deserves world-class mental health services, and my party would deliver them.”
