McArthur: ill-prepared deposit return scheme risks havoc

Responding to Green Minister Lorna Slater telling Good Morning Scotland that the Scottish Government will press ahead with its deposit return scheme, in the face of dire warnings from many businesses, Scottish Liberal Democrat climate emergency spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

“SNP and Green ministers simply aren’t listening.

“Businesses are warning of costs and barriers that amount to an existential threat.

“I want to see a successful deposit return system to reduce litter, emissions and waste. However, ministers must hit pause to avoid their ill-prepared scheme causing havoc with business, harming public confidence and undermining the case for DRS itself.”
