Huge numbers still stuck in hospital

Responding to new Public Health Scotland figures published today which show that more than 1,800 people were stuck in hospital in August 2023 due to a delayed discharge, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:  

“SNP neglect of our health and social care system is leaving huge numbers stuck in hospital. People waiting for a care home place or to return home are in limbo because they can’t get the care they need in the community. There are gaps everywhere.

“Patients and staff cannot wait years for the wrong solution in the form of a ministerial takeover of social care.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see that billion pound bureaucracy scrapped and for that money to be spent on staff and services instead.”
