Greene to deliver maiden speech for Scottish Liberal Democrats on the economy

Jamie Greene MSP

On Tuesday, Jamie Greene MSP will deliver his first speech in the Scottish Parliament since joining the Scottish Liberal Democrats, and his first since being appointed as the party's economy and finance spokesperson in which he will criticise SNP, Labour and Conservative economic policies and call for the Scottish Government to deliver a long term industrial strategy, rather than government by photo opportunity,

Commenting ahead of his speech in the Scottish Government debate Supporting Scottish Industry During Turbulent Economic Times, Mr Greene said:

"When I joined the Scottish Liberal Democrats I was clear to my constituents that I would continue to fight their corner for good jobs and a thriving local economy.

"Now with a frontbench role I can have an even greater impact standing up for working communities. People deserve better than SNP neglect, Labour's jobs tax and the Conservatives' reckless unfunded promises.

“From Ferguson Marine to the Dalzell steelworks, the Bifab fabrication yards and the Alvance smelter at Lochaber, the Scottish Government have thrown around hundreds of millions of pounds with precious little to show for it.

“There is no long-term industrial strategy in Scotland. The Scottish Government takes a reactive approach, intervening when it thinks there is a photo opportunity.

“We need a real macroeconomic strategy which puts value for money and realistic exit strategies at its core. It’s now time for Scotland to fully embrace the industries of the future once and for all, and I will hold the SNP's feet to the fire over its dismal economic record."
