Speaking ahead of a summit of Scottish party leaders called to address climate action, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton has outlined a package of immediate measures that his party wants to see implemented to bring down emissions, insulate homes and ensure a green jobs revolution.

The proposals include launching an emergency national insulation programme to cut bills and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, scrapping the Scottish Government support for Heathrow’s third runway and ensure Scottish workers and local communities get the full benefit of Scotland’s renewable potential.

Mr Cole-Hamilton said:

“The SNP-Green government should be panicking. Year after year they miss their climate change targets.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats are proud of the part we’ve played, from setting the first renewable electricity targets to introducing the free bus pass and putting in motion the building of the Borders Railway. It was a Scottish Liberal Democrat/Labour amendment to the 2019 Climate Change Act that established Scotland’s ambitious emissions reductions targets.

“Each of these victories show what you get from a party that is willing to work constructively with others to drive Scotland forward.

“We have a host of proposals that the Scottish Government could press ahead with. We need a national insulation programme to bring down emissions and bills, public transport made more affordable, an end to SNP support for Heathrow’s damaging third runway, and rule changes to ensure Scottish workers and local communities get the full benefit of Scotland’s renewable potential.

“I don’t want Humza Yousaf to tell me he is listening. I want him to get serious about living up to our shared climate change commitments.”
