Cole-Hamilton calls for proper windfall tax as Scottish Power earnings soar

Responding to the news that in the first half of 2023, Scottish Power recorded overall earnings of £1.158bn, up 58% from £677m, Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Alex Cole-Hamilton said:
“This is a vast sum of money for Scottish Power to be raking in.
“Soaring energy costs have taken their toll on Scottish households, yet for the big energy companies it is proving extremely lucrative.
“I can’t believe that this out of touch Conservative government is still allowing energy firms to rake in extraordinary sums while millions struggle.
“It’s time for a general election and a proper windfall tax to fund the support families desperately need.”
