Former nuclear submarine engineer, Cdr Jamie Dobson OBE later studied Theology at Glasgow University. He lives in Uig, Isle of Lewis.
People are fed up with slick politicians selling a good story but not delivering. He promises to thump tables in Holyrood on behalf of Na h-Eileanan an Iar to deliver the changes we need, with fairness at their heart. We must admit that the Edinburgh quangocracy fails to recognise island perspectives: empower and fund island-led authorities to take charge locally.
Increasing the working age population is fundamental: child care, social care, dentistry, mechanics….
Reliable, all-weather ferries must be fit for purpose: currently they are not. Outrageous air fares must be tackled.
Enable individuals and representative local authorities to grasp renewable energy opportunities (but NOT N4!), founding sustainable, electricity-intensive businesses like exporting green hydrogen and operating data centres. 5% of wind power output value must be shared between CnES and communities.
