Why am I standing?: I could so easily stay behind the scenes, working in the shadows of public relations and public affairs and penning columns in newspapers. It would be more lucrative, less stressful, and I'd burn a lot less shoe leather. But I can't stay out of sight or in the commentary box anymore, it feels like a dereliction of my duty to my community. Edinburgh Eastern, Musselburgh and Tranent is a microcosm of Scotland. We're rural and urban, we've got universities, hospitals, schools, and police officers, all of which have been completely let down by nearly two full decades of tired and expired SNP government. It takes forever to see a GP, our streets feel less safe, and it seems to be harder than ever to start a business. We need to stop the slide into mediocrity and the endless whinging that everything that is not as good as it used to be because a bigger parliament did it and ran away. Enough! As liberals, we know we don't have all the answers, but we can offer a realistic, pragmatic plan for our community, we offer change with fairness at its heart.
