The Glen Rosa still berthed at Ferguson’s over six years late

2 Oct 2025

The Glen Rosa, the new ferry from Ferguson’s, has been delayed until well into next year. It’s already over six years later than it was supposed to enter service.

Other ferries are being pulled for repairs at short notice, leaving CalMac scrambling to plug the gaps.

This shambles is not CalMac’s fault, but the SNP’s. They decided to keep the ferries in service long after their useful lives instead of building new ones.

When he was the local MP in 2009, Alan Reid warned the SNP that they needed to start a ferry building programme then or the old ferries would break down regularly.

The SNP did not heed this sensible advice and ferry users have paid the price.
