Scottish Liberal Democrats launch petition to extend ferries compensation
Scottish Liberal Democrats have launched a petition which calls for compensation to be given to every community affected by the SNP’s ferries fiasco, after the party highlighted that too many islands and coastal areas are excluded from the Scottish Government’s existing compensation scheme.
In June, the Scottish Government announced a fund to support businesses on just eight islands affected by disruption to ferry services.
Key island and mainland communities, including Mull, Dunoon, Iona, Islay, Jura, Tiree, Coll and Campbeltown, amongst others, have all been excluded from the scheme.
In September, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP raised the issue directly with the First Minister, asking him to explain why these areas will receive no compensation, despite many of them being at the forefront of disruption.
The Scottish Liberal Democrat petition calls on the SNP government to extend the scheme to all communities impacted by ferry disruption. You can sign the petition at www.scotlibdems.org.uk/ferry-compensation
