Alan Reid welcomes review of proposed 4-year closure of the A83 at Rest & Be Thankful
Alan Reid welcomed the announcement of a review of the Scottish Government’s earlier decision to close the A83 at the Rest & Be Thankful for four years to carry out work to put a canopy over the road.
During these four years the diversion would be the single-track Old Military Road.
A 4-year closure would cause severe problems for local businesses. Alan Reid has backed the business community in its opposition to the closure.
After a year of insisting that the closure had to happen, the SNP Government have now told Transport Scotland to “review” the 4-year closure.
Alan Reid says, “I hope the outcome of this review will be that a proper 2-lane diversion road must be built before any closure of the A83 happens.”
It’s important to note that the SNP Government haven’t put the canopy into the Scottish Budget. So there’s still no commitment to build it.
