Phil Barnett

Phil Barnett has lived in Newbury all his life. He has 3 children and 6 grandchildren, all also living locally. He was a pupil – and 28 years a governor – at Park House School.

Originally a Labour candidate, he joined the Lib Dems in the 1980s. After working over 30 years at Harwell, he stood and won a seat on the District Council in what was then Turnpike Ward. He served two terms on Newbury Town Council, twice having the honour of being town mayor.

Billy Drummond

Billy has lived and worked in Newbury, as a Head Chef at Newbury Racecourse and a successful cater business, before retiring. He has represented Greenham on West Berks Council since 2000 and Newbury Eastfields since 2019. He cares passionately about the disadvantaged and the impact austrerity has had on them.

David John Harman

David is in his early 50s, married with two grown up children.  David has a strong background in environmental project management, having over 25 years’ experience of cleaning up polluted former industrial sites for beneficial use, helping nature and local communities.  David is keen to look after the interests of Eastfields and to provide the skills of an experienced project manager and Chartered Scientist to promote green initiatives and community ventures within Newbury Town Council.  David supports the values of liberty, equality and community and with your backing is looking forward to representing Eastfields on Newbury Town Council.

Vaughan John Miller

Vaughan has lived in Newbury for 25 years. His children went to Falkland, Park House and St Barts schools. Elected to Newbury Town Council in 2019, Vaughan is involved in Green Spaces, Planning and Highways and is a Project Manager on the Neighbourhood Development Steering Group.

He is also a trustee at Age Concern (Newbury) and worked closely with their Meals on Wheels service to ensure the service was able to continue throughout the various Covid lock downs.

Vaughan has been leading the fight for the Lib Dem’s and the Town Council to save the football ground in Faraday Road and bring football back to its home in the town centre.

With now adult children, Vaughan is also particularly keen to see access to affordable housing improved for families, but also for single people and key workers.

With a proven record at Town Council, he is looking forward to helping Newbury Town Council.

Gary Arthur Norman

Gary has lived in Newbury since 1986 and is married with one son who is at University. He is a retired Programme and Project Manager from the IT sector.
 
He has served on Newbury Town Council since 2019, been Chair of the Planning Committee and Grants Committee as well as the Canal Corridor and Silver Anniversary Working Groups. He has also served on the Civic Pride Committee and on the Local Democracy, Heritage, and Neighbourhood Development Plan Working Group. 
 
His main interests are in the promotion of the needs of young people and of the vulnerable; bringing together all the diverse communities; the prevention of high-rise building in the town centre; and the promotion of Newbury as a living, thriving market town and an attractive place to visit.
 
Gary is also a governor at St Bart's School, a volunteer at the Speakability stroke survivors group and Chair of Trustees for Eight Bells for Mental Health.
